The specific gravity of sand FRP pipe made by fibre winding ranges from 1．65 to 2．0, one fourth of that of steel. But the FRP’s hoop tensile strength is from 180 to 300ＭＰa and its axial tensile strength is from 60 to 150 MPa, similar to alloy steel. Hence, FRP’s specific strength (strength / specific gravity) is two to three times that of the alloy steel. In this way, it can, as per user’s need, be made into pipes that can bear different internal and external pressures. As for piece weight with the same pipe diameter, FRP pipe is only 40% of carbon steel pipe (steel plate reelpipe), approx 29% of the cast iron pipe and approx one-eighth of the prestressed reinforced concrete pipe.
